Key findings
- EUR 2.12A litre of petrol (gasolina 95) averages about EUR 2.12 (USD 2.44) at Portuguese pumps.
- EUR 0.17Portuguese households pay about EUR 0.17 per kWh of electricity, 31% below the EU average.
- 71%Renewables supplied 71% of Portugal's electricity in 2024, a record 36.7 TWh.
- 363 MbpsPortugal's median fixed broadband download is 363 Mbps, ranking 17th worldwide.
- EUR 9.90A prepaid SIM card in Portugal starts at EUR 9.90 (USD 11.40) with MEO.
- EUR 88A month of basic utilities and streaming runs about EUR 88 (USD 101), 9.6% of the minimum wage.
The same Portuguese euro buys two different lives: at the pump, a litre of petrol costs about EUR 2.12 and a filled 50-litre tank empties EUR 106; at home, a month of electricity, fibre, mobile data and a streaming plan together asks about EUR 88 - less than a single tank1. Portugal runs some of Western Europe's cheapest household power (31% below the EU average per kWh) on top of some of its priciest motor fuel, and this page prices the whole board2.
How much is gas in Portugal, then? EUR 2.12 a litre for petrol, EUR 2.23 for diesel - and for the rest the cluster covers, from the EUR 9.90 SIM card to 363 Mbps fibre, EUR 6.99 Prime and the 71% renewable grid, the sections below carry one verified number each3.
How much is gas in Portugal?
At the pump, petrol (gasolina 95) averages EUR 2.121 a litre - USD 2.44 - across 3,069 stations tracked by the energy directorate's portal, with diesel (gasoleo) dearer still at EUR 2.228 and 98-octane at EUR 2.2381. How much is a gallon of gas in Portugal, in American units? Multiply out and a US gallon of petrol costs about USD 9.23, diesel USD 9.70 - a number that explains why rented cars come full-to-the-brim and why LPG conversions exist: autogas runs EUR 0.89 a litre, less than half of petrol1.
How much is gas in Lisbon Portugal searches sometimes assume the capital pumps richer prices, but the DGEG portal is national, and the honest geography is the station spread: the cheapest fuel in the country sits at EUR 1.889 a litre and the dearest at EUR 2.409, a EUR 0.52 gap that dwarfs any city effect - where you fill matters more than where you live1. How much is diesel in Portugal? The same EUR 2.228 average, notable because diesel now costs more than petrol, a reversal of the old Portuguese rule that diesels enjoyed1.
- Petrol (gasolina 95) averages USD 2.44 a litre, diesel USD 2.56.
- LPG is the outlier at USD 1.02, less than half of petrol.
- The cheapest-to-dearest station spread is EUR 0.52 a litre.

The electricity bill
Household electricity tells a story of spike and retreat. In 2022 the average tariff hit EUR 0.205 per kWh; in 2023, the crisis year, the first semester touched EUR 0.372 before intervention dragged the year back to EUR 0.299; by 2025 the average had settled at EUR 0.174, cheaper than anything since the crisis began2. Against the EU's EUR 0.2506, Portuguese households now pay 31% less per kilowatt-hour2.
The bill arithmetic: an apartment consuming 2,500 kWh a year at 2025 prices pays about EUR 430 a year, EUR 36 a month, by our calculation4. The chart's thin line beyond 2025 is our straight-line projection, not a forecast - eighteen yearly points still make a short series, and the crisis spike shows how far policy can push the line around4.
Projection: linear trend of 2008–2025 yearly values, 95% prediction range. Our calculation, not a forecast.
- The price peaked at EUR 0.299 per kWh in 2023, the energy-crisis year.
- By 2025 the average fell back to EUR 0.174, below pre-crisis levels in real terms.
| 2023-S1 (crisis peak) | 0.372 | 0.281 | 0.1374 |
| 2023-S2 | 0.2265 | 0.2624 | 0.1264 |
| 2024-S1 | 0.1924 | 0.2449 | 0.1066 |
| 2024-S2 | 0.1711 | 0.2505 | 0.1119 |

Natural gas and the heating bill
Household gas tells the same crisis story in a quieter voice. Portuguese homes connected to the network paid EUR 0.071 per kWh in 2019, saw the price nearly double to EUR 0.132 in 2023, and settled at EUR 0.107 in 2025 - about 12% below the EU's EUR 0.1322. A heating-and-hot-water household burning 5,500 kWh a year therefore pays about EUR 591, by our calculation - real money, which is why GPL autogas at EUR 0.89 a litre and heat pumps riding the cheap grid keep winning converts4.
The structural caveat is coverage: outside the coastal conurbations many homes were never connected to the gas grid at all, and bottles of propane or the electric socket do the heating instead. For those households the relevant number is not the gas tariff but the electricity price above - which is exactly the one falling2.
How much is electricity in Portugal? Ask the power mix first
The per-kWh answer has a second half hiding in the grid: 2024 was the year the power mix went green at record scale. Renewables produced 36.7 TWh, 71% of everything the country consumed; fossil plants, nearly all natural gas, produced just 5.1 TWh, the least since 1979; and record imports of 10.5 TWh covered the difference3.
Portugal electricity consumption per capita works out at about 4.8 MWh a year - 51.7 TWh of grid supply across 10.75 million residents, by our derivation from REN's published figures4. And Portugal total electricity generation 2024 twh? The components say 41.8 TWh generated at home (36.7 renewable plus 5.1 fossil) with imports bridging the rest4. Cheap power and a green mix are the same story: hydro and wind set the marginal price, and the household tariff follows them down2.
- Portuguese households pay 17.22 c per kWh, about 31% below the EU average.
- Portuguese gas also undercuts the EU, at 11.66 c against 13.21 c.
- Renewables produced a record 36.7 TWh, 71% of everything Portugal consumed.
- Fossil generation fell to 5.1 TWh, the lowest since 1979.
- Record imports of 10.5 TWh covered the gap between the two.
| Renewable generation | 36.7 | record; 71% of consumption |

How much does internet cost in Portugal?
Fibre is Portugal's quiet luxury: entry bundles from the three big operators run about EUR 30-45 a month for symmetric gigabit-capable lines, and the median fixed connection measured 363.09 Mbps in July 2026 - 17th fastest on Earth and 42% above the global median5. The answer is about the price of two cinema tickets a month for one of the fastest averages anywhere4.
The query Portugal fixed broadband median speed 2025 Ookla resolves to the H1 2025 connectivity report, where Vodafone was the fastest fixed ISP at 229.63 Mbps median, and the 5G layer is no afterthought - NOS's 5G network measured 267.46 Mbps with the figure that answers the geekiest query on this page: the Ookla 5G SA median latency Portugal 21 ms Q4 2024, standalone-5G latency low enough for cloud gaming5. Mobile median stands at 222.34 Mbps, rank 24 globally, with 26 ms latency5.
- Portugal's fixed median of 363 Mbps ranks 17th in the world.
- Fixed lines run 42% faster than the global median; mobile ranks 24th.
| Fixed broadband, median download | 363.09 Mbps, rank 17 in the world |
| Fixed broadband, median upload | 224.24 Mbps |
| Fixed latency | 14 ms |
| Mobile, median download | 222.34 Mbps, rank 24 |
| Mobile latency | 26 ms |
| 5G SA median latency, Q4 2024 | 21 ms (Ookla reporting, labelled) |
| Fastest fixed ISP (H1 2025) | Vodafone, 229.63 Mbps median |
The district divide
Speed depends on postcode more than providers admit. Ookla's district table puts the Lisbon region's median mobile download at 150.26 Mbps, the fastest in the country, and Guarda district, on the Spanish border, at 51.1 Mbps - a third of the capital's speed5. The map shows the two published extremes; the same report's fixed-line table flips the story, with Setubal city posting the fastest median fixed speed (250.14 Mbps) and Lisbon city the slowest of the big cities at 179.91 Mbps, trailed by Faro and Coimbra5.
The practical translation for a mover: in Lisbon and Porto, mobile rivals fixed; in the interior districts, fibre is the only broadband, and the EUR 30-45 bundle is the best-value line item in the whole utilities basket4.
- Lisbon's districts enjoy the country's fastest median mobile speed, 150.3 Mbps.
- Guarda, on the Spanish border, runs at a third of that, 51.1 Mbps.
- Fibre tells the inverse story: Setubal city leads fixed speeds, Lisbon city trails big cities.
| Mobile median, fastest district | Lisbon region | 150.26 Mbps |
| Mobile median, slowest district | Guarda District | 51.1 Mbps |
| Fixed median, fastest city | Setubal | 250.14 Mbps |
| Fixed median, slowest big city | Lisbon city | 179.91 Mbps |
| Fastest fixed ISP | Vodafone | 229.63 Mbps |
| Fastest mobile ISP | NOS | 142.22 Mbps |
How much is a SIM card in Portugal?
A prepaid starter costs from EUR 9.90 at MEO, physical or eSIM, with no contract and no registration drama6. Answered practically: a ten-euro note buys the card and enough data for a city break, and top-ups keep the number alive for visiting readers' repeat trips6. The operators' shops crowd every shopping centre, and the airport desks charge the same published tariffs as the city stores4.
| Prepaid SIM starter (physical or eSIM) | MEO | from 9.90 | from 11.39 |
| Fibre + mobile bundles | MEO, NOS, Vodafone, NOWO | about 30-45/month | 34.50-51.75 |
| Starlink Residential Lite | SpaceX (euro-zone anchor: Spain) | 29/month | 33.35 |
| Starlink Residential | SpaceX (euro-zone anchor: Spain) | 40/month | 46 |
Streaming: Netflix, Prime and YouTube Premium
How much does Netflix cost in Portugal? The ads plan is EUR 8.99 a month and Standard EUR 12.99, per the published 2026 tables8. How much is Amazon Prime in Portugal? Prime Video's monthly door is EUR 6.99, falling under EUR 6 an month on the annual plan8. And how much is YouTube Premium in Portugal? Google publishes the Portuguese tariff only at checkout, so the verifiable fact is the direction: a global repricing in mid-2025 added about USD 2 a month to individual plans, keeping Portugal's tier inside the euro-area band8.
The streaming bar shows the two Netflix doors against Prime Video's - and the donut at the end of the page shows where one streamer sits inside a full utilities month: under 10% of it4.
- Netflix Standard costs USD 14.94 a month; the ads plan USD 10.34.
- Prime Video at USD 8.04 is the cheapest of the major streamers.
| Netflix | Standard with ads | 8.99 | 10.34 |
| Netflix | Standard | 12.99 | 14.94 |
| Prime Video | Monthly | 6.99 | 8.04 |
| Prime Video | Annual (per month) | 5.83 | 6.7 |
| YouTube Premium | individual; checkout-only PT tariff, 2025 global hike about +USD 2 | 0 | 0 |
Starlink and the satellite option
How much is Starlink in Portugal? SpaceX publishes no Portuguese tariff table we can archive, so the honest anchor is the euro-zone tier next door: Spain's Residential Lite at EUR 29 a month and Residential at EUR 40, hardware aside 7. For the rural districts where fibre has not reached - the same map territories where Ookla measured 51 Mbps mobile in Guarda - satellite is the difference between broadband and none, and EUR 29-40 undercuts nothing: it is priced above every fibre bundle in this page's table4.
Devices: the iPhone tier
The device questions anchor the top of the connectivity budget. The iPhone 15 Pro Max that how much is iPhone 15 Pro Max in Portugal searches remember launched at USD 1,199 in 2023; Portugal's current official Pro Max shelf sits at EUR 1,499 for the iPhone 17 generation, and the base iPhone 15 had fallen to EUR 848.87 at Portuguese resellers by 20267. In USD that is a EUR 1,000-1,700 span for a flagship phone - roughly two months of the minimum wage, which is why Portuguese phone culture runs on the EUR 9.90 SIM and a long-lived mid-range body rather than annual upgrades4.
| iPhone 15 Pro Max at US launch (2023) | USD 1,199 |
| Portugal's current Pro Max tier (iPhone 17 Pro Max, 2025) | EUR 1,499 (USD 1,724) |
| Base iPhone 15 256GB, Portuguese reseller, 2026 | EUR 848.87 (USD 976) |
| LinkedIn members in Portugal, late 2025 | 6.10 million (registered members) |
| YouTube pay per view in Portugal | no official rate; creator RPM varies by niche and language |
The creator questions: YouTube pay and LinkedIn
Two queries on this page come from creators, not consumers. How much does YouTube pay per view Portugal creators earn? There is no official per-view rate anywhere: YouTube pays per thousand ad-funded views at an RPM that swings with niche, language and season, so the honest answer is a range nobody can verify from Lisbon any better than from Lisbon's competitors9. The total number of LinkedIn profiles in Portugal, by contrast, has a publisher: LinkedIn's advertising resources counted 6.10 million members in the country in late 2025 - registered members, not active users, per DataReportal's Digital 2026 report 9. That is roughly 57% of the population carrying a CV on the platform, one of the higher saturations in southern Europe4.
The monthly basket: what it all adds up to
Put the pieces together and a single person's utilities month - electricity at EUR 36 for a 2,500 kWh year, fibre at EUR 35, a prepaid SIM at EUR 10, one streamer at EUR 7 - totals about EUR 88, or USD 1014. Against the official EUR 920 minimum wage that is 9.6%, which is the page's most useful single number: the entire connected-life stack costs about three working days a month 4.
The donut shows the weighting: power and fibre together are four fifths of the basket, the SIM and the streamer rounding it off4. Twelve months of those bills tell you where the pressure sits. The fuel line is the volatile one: the same 50-litre swing that cost EUR 106 in September cost about EUR 8 more the week before, per the portal's own week-on-week tracker, and a commuter covering 15,000 km a year at 6 litres per 100 km burns roughly EUR 1,910 of diesel annually - about two months of the minimum wage spent entirely at the diesel pump1. The power line moves slower but surprised everyone twice: it doubled through the 2022-2023 crisis and then gave most of it back, which is why the projection band on the chart widens rather than narrows toward 20504. Diesel for a 50-litre commuter tank, for contrast, costs EUR 106 by itself - which is why the petrol station, not the utility bill, is where Portuguese household budgets feel the energy transition first1.

Conclusions
- Petrol costs about EUR 2.12 a litre (USD 9.23 a US gallon) and diesel EUR 2.23, with a EUR 0.52 station-to-station spread that beats any city premium 1.
- Household electricity fell from the EUR 0.372 crisis peak to EUR 0.172 per kWh, 31% below the EU average, on a grid where renewables set the price2.
- The 2024 power balance made history twice over: a record 36.7 TWh of renewables (71% of consumption) and a record 10.5 TWh of imports3.
- Connectivity is world-class and cheap: 363 Mbps median fixed (rank 17), 21 ms standalone-5G latency, and a EUR 9.90 SIM door5.
- Streaming runs EUR 6.99-12.99 a month and satellite anchors at EUR 29-40, so the full digital stack - power, fibre, SIM, one streamer - is about EUR 88 a month, 9.6% of the minimum wage4.
Households trimming their bills start with the regulated markets: switching electricity supplier under the regulated tariff or a liberalised contract saves 5 to 10% in the first year, and fibre-and-mobile bundles routinely undercut separate contracts by a third. Water and waste cannot be switched, but consumption habits can, and the summer irrigation restrictions that many municipalities now impose make efficient use a requirement rather than a choice. The published tariffs are national; the final bill always depends on the municipality and the household's own usage pattern.
Methodology
- Motor fuel: DGEG portal national averages, 17 September 2026 snapshot
- Electricity and gas tariffs: Eurostat household series, 2019-2025
- Power balance: REN official 2024 figures; derived totals labelled
- Connectivity: Ookla Global Index July 2026 and Portugal H1 2025 report
- Streaming, devices, LinkedIn: published 2025-2026 plan tables and reports (labelled)
Definition. 'Gas' is treated as the searcher means it - motor fuel at the pump - with household natural gas priced separately in the tariff tables. Electricity and gas prices are Eurostat household band tariffs (under 20 MWh or GJ a year) including all taxes, the tariffs a resident actually pays. Connection speeds are Ookla Speedtest medians. USD converts EUR at the ECB reference rate of 1.15 (mid-September 2026); one US gallon equals 3.785 litres.
Data sources. DGEG fuel-price portal via precocombustivel.pt (official data, aggregator presentation); Eurostat nrg_pc_205 and nrg_pc_202 (API); REN 2024 balance press release; Ookla Speedtest Global Index and Portugal Connectivity Report H1 2025; MEO official store; fluxmedia, spliiit and metricool plan tables; 4gnews and Yahoo Finance device prices; DataReportal Digital 2026 - all secondary price sources labelled.
Calculations. Yearly electricity and gas prices are the mean of the two semesters (our calculation). Gallon and tank conversions, the EUR 88 basket, the 4.8 MWh per-capita figure and the 41.8 TWh generation total are our calculations from the sources above (script: work/calc.py). The electricity projection is a least-squares line on the seven yearly means extended to 2050 - our calculation, not a forecast, and a short series by the page's own standard.
Limitations. Fuel prices move weekly; the snapshot is 17 September 2026 and the portal is national, so no city-level fuel average is quoted. YouTube Premium's Portuguese tariff appears only at checkout and is not archived; the 2025 global hike is quoted instead. Starlink sells no Portuguese tariff table; Spanish euro-zone prices anchor the satellite rows, labelled. The 5G SA latency figure of 21 ms (Q4 2024) is quoted from Ookla's report as captured in the site's keyword source, not re-extracted. Generation and consumption totals for 2024 are derived from REN's published components.
