What you get

You're looking at the apartments group for central Porto. This group holds 549 of 728 listings, or 75 percent of places to stay in the city centre. It's for you if you want your own place rather than a hotel room, a guest house room or a hostel bed.

The group covers central Porto as a whole, not one neighbourhood. With 549 listings, you're choosing from a large share of places to stay here. Before you book, compare the facilities each apartment lists. Two apartments at the same price can differ in what they offer, so read the facilities before you commit.

The group is defined by the kind of place you sleep, so the apartments here are the main alternative to hotels, guest houses and hostels.

Three picks from the 549 options in this group, each chosen for a different reason: the most reviewed, the best rated on a solid number of reviews, and the cheapest of the well rated.

What these cost, and what you get for more

Entry prices run from 67 EUR to 594 EUR, with a middle of 138 EUR. 340 of the listings start between 120 and 250 EUR, so that's where the majority of the group sits. Another 170 start between 60 and 120 EUR, so a lower entry price still leaves you with a substantial set.

Only 38 start at 250 EUR or more. That means the high end is thin: if you're spending above 250 EUR, you're choosing from a small group. The middle of 138 EUR sits inside the 120 to 250 EUR band, so half the listings start at or below that, and half at or above.

That middle is a useful marker: if you see a listing at that price, it sits in the middle of the group. If your budget is tight, the 60 to 120 EUR band has 170 options. If you can stretch to 120 to 250 EUR, you get 340.

Above 250 EUR, you get 38. So most of the group sits in the middle band, and the extremes are smaller. The entry price you see is the starting point for each apartment, and the spread tells you where the bulk of your choices lie.

How far to trust the ratings

Every apartment in this group has at least ten ratings behind its score. Of those, 403 score 8.1 or higher, and 146 score between 7.0 and below that. None score below 7.0. None have fewer than ten votes.

None have zero votes. So you won't find a score here that rests on a handful of reviews. The floor is ten ratings, and every listing meets it. But that minimum is not a guarantee.

The number of ratings behind each score varies. A score from hundreds of ratings is a different signal from a score from a few dozen. When you see a high score, look at how many ratings it carries. Judge each listing by the weight of its evidence, not just the height of its score.

If a listing has hundreds of ratings, its score is a stable signal. If it has a few dozen, treat the score as promising but less certain. Listings with lower scores still have at least ten votes behind them, so they are not weak on evidence, just lower on score.

Which one to pick

Start with the count of ratings. Liiiving In Porto | Downtown Luxury Apartments has 577 ratings and starts at 151 EUR. GuestReady - Casas de Mompilher has 366 ratings and starts at 96 EUR. Those two carry large numbers of ratings, so their scores rest on plenty of stays.

If you want a higher score but accept thinner evidence, GuestReady - Loft 515 has 17 ratings and starts at 169 EUR. That's a small base, so a few new reviews could move its score. For a lower entry price, GuestReady - Almada 516 starts at 93 EUR and has 58 ratings.

That's a lower entry price than the other listings named here, and still a solid number of ratings. So you can trade price against the weight of evidence. Free cancellation is available on 128 of the listings, so if your plans might change, that's a filter worth using.

This group is apartments only. If you want a hotel, that's a separate group of 87; guest houses have 63; hostels 27. For a specific area, the Baixa group has 409 listings, Bonfim 124, Cedofeita 66, and Miragaia and Massarelos 29. Ribeira has its own group as well.

There is also a group for places rated 9 and above, with 204 listings. So if you want the Baixa, you can look in that group instead, but you'll be mixing apartments with other kinds of stay. If you want an apartment specifically, you're in the right group.

The area groups are a useful filter if a particular neighbourhood matters to you. The Baixa has 409 listings, a large number among the area groups, so you'll find plenty of options there. The rated 9 and above group is another way to narrow down: 204 listings scored 9 or higher, across all kinds of stay.
