What your Porto trip costs
Set your party, nights and choices, and the planner prices the trip line by line, with the same trip at the other comfort levels beside it.
Room rates are the median lowest rate per listing for two nights from 10 October 2026, one sample date, used for every month: summer rates run higher. Meals are the price bands restaurants publish per person. Fares are Metro do Porto's 2026 tariff; car hire is a dated national average for a budget car and Booking.com Cars' Porto average for an average car and 100 euros a day for a premium car, with fuel at the ERSE price for one September week. Drinks are draught beers at a crowd-sourced Porto bar average; the private transfer is the median of six rated private airport rides, per vehicle. The Port lodge is Taylor's adult ticket, and tours are the most booked in each group, converted to euros. Flights and extras are not included.
A trip to Porto can cost very different amounts for the same number of days. The room is most of the bill, and in the central listings a five-star double cost about four times a guest house for the same October weekend; meals range from a sandwich-house lunch to a tasting menu, and the metro costs little while a hire car, a Douro tour and a Port tasting add up quickly.
The planner below prices your trip from those parts: your party and nights, the level you sleep at, how you eat and drink, the way in from the airport, a hire car if you want one, a Port lodge visit and any tours. Every line carries its source. Below the planner you will find how the figures were set, the one sample date behind the room rates, and what the total leaves out.

Under an hourWhere to sleep sets the budget
The mistake is to plan meals and tours first. The level you sleep at moves the total more than anything else in the planner.
Sampled over the weekend of 10 to 12 October 2026, the typical lowest rate in central Porto came to about 27 euros a night for a hostel dorm bed, about 106 euros for a double in a guest house, bed and breakfast or 1-2 star hotel, about 220 euros for a double in a 3-4 star hotel, and about 420 euros in a 5-star hotel. Those are medians of what was on offer that weekend, not the cheapest room of each kind.
That is one sample date, and the planner uses it for every month. Seasons do move prices: across Portugal, the national statistics office's average rate per occupied room was 159.2 euros in August 2025 against 98.0 euros in November 2024. So for a summer trip, expect rooms above the planner's figure, and for winter, below it.
The municipal tourist tax is on top, and the planner charges it for every traveller; in reality children under 13 are exempt and the charge stops after a week. The where to stay guide compares the areas.

Eating out
The mistake is to budget a restaurant meal three times a day. Porto's cheaper places are where much of the city eats.
The planner prices a day's food from the price bands restaurants publish per person. The most common band is 10 to 15 euros, which 68 restaurants give; the second most common is 5 to 10 euros, with 31; and 9 publish 50 euros or more.
So "cheap eats" is two meals at the top of the 5 to 10 euro band, 20 euros a day per person; "a mix" is one cheap meal and one at the top of the 10 to 15 euro band, 25 euros; and "restaurants" is one meal of 15 euros and one of 50 euros or more, 65 euros. Coffee and pastries between meals are not counted. Drinks are priced separately, as draught beers: a crowd-sourced average for a half-litre in a Porto bar is 3 euros, within a range of 2 to 4.50 euros.
Those bands match the city's sandwich houses and tascas at the lower end: the two Casa Guedes houses, rated 4.6 and 4.7, are in the 10 to 20 euro band, and Almada Café is at 5 to 10 euros.
Waiters often bring bread and olives unasked: you pay only for what you eat, and sending them back is normal. Restaurants by price are listed in where to eat.

Getting around, and a car
The mistake is to add a car to a city break. In Porto, transport is the small part of the bill unless you hire one.
The airport metro costs 2.30 euros a head each way on a zone Z4 ticket, counted both ways by the planner, and an hour's travel in the centre costs 1.40. The paper Andante card, 0.60 euros, is not counted.
A hire car is priced per car day, in three classes. A budget car uses a national average from a car-rental broker's study reported in the press, dated, which is about two and a half times higher in summer than in winter. An average car uses Booking.com Cars' average for a medium car in Porto, 38 euros a day, and a premium car is priced at 100 euros a day; neither has a seasonal split. Each car day adds fuel for a day in the Douro to Régua and back, 188 km at the regulator's petrol price of 2.115 euros a litre for one September week, with free parking at the Museu do Douro. Tolls and insurance extras are not counted, and the car days start at the same number as the nights.
From the airport, the planner offers the metro, a private transfer or picking up the hire car. The private transfer is the median price of six rated private airport rides to central Porto, 27.35 euros per vehicle, from 17 to 74.90 euros; picking up a hire car adds nothing here, as the car line already counts it.
For most city stays, no car is the right answer; the do you need a car calculator weighs a car against a tour and the metro.

Tours and a Port lodge
The mistake is to leave the tours out of the budget and add them on the day. They are often the second largest line.
A Port lodge visit is priced at Taylor's adult ticket, 25 euros in September 2026, with an audio tour and three Ports; other houses start from about 23 euros for a standard visit, and longer tastings cost more.
Each tour chip adds the most booked tour of its group, converted to euros at the site's rate: a Douro Valley day, a river cruise, a walking tour, a food tour and a day trip. The card beside each one shows its current price and rating, which change with the date.
To compare the planner's total with an organised trip, the answer also shows a ready-made package: the median price per person per day of the multi-day packages in the catalogue. A package usually includes hotels and some meals, so it does not compare line for line with a city stay.
Several of the best things in Porto cost nothing: the walk over the Luís I bridge, the gardens of the Palácio de Cristal and the viewpoints on the Gaia bank.
Tours and a lodge visit are often the second largest line in a budget. What the total leaves out
The mistake is to read the planner's total as a quote. It is a structured estimate from published and sampled prices, and several costs are not in it.
Flights are not included, nor wine, coffee and snacks between meals, museum and monument tickets beyond the Port lodge, the historic trams, tips, and shopping.
Room rates come from one October weekend and do not follow the season. Car hire is a national average from an older study, and fuel prices change weekly; the regulator publishes them each week, as ERSE does.
Tour prices are the lowest bookable option for the most booked tour in each group, converted from dollars, and change with the date.
The metro fares are the current tariff and change least; they are published on the Metro do Porto tariff page.
With those limits, the planner is most useful for comparing choices: the same trip at another comfort level, with or without a car, with one tour or three. The other cards in the answer show exactly that. For a plan to spend it on, see the itineraries.
