The Michelin Guide singled out Porto in its 2026 edition, and planning a starred dinner there takes more than picking a name. The Porto Michelin star restaurants in the 2026 guide number thirteen across the city, Vila Nova de Gaia and Leça da Palmeira on the coast: three with two stars and ten with one, four of them new this year. Several open only for dinner, several close on Sundays and Mondays, and three sit inside hotels.

The current list comes with what the stars mean, where each restaurant is, which days to avoid and how to plan the booking. The guide changes every year, so the list is dated to the 2026 edition.

The guide and what the stars mean

The common mistake is to treat every restaurant in the guide as starred. The Michelin selection is wider than its stars, and the difference matters when booking.

In 2026 the guide gave stars to 53 restaurants across Portugal: nine with two stars and 44 with one, eleven of them new. Two stars mark an exceptional cuisine, the second-highest distinction the guide awards.

The Michelin restaurants Porto visitors see listed in the guide go beyond the starred thirteen. The guide's full selection for Porto and its surroundings lists 38 restaurants, most of them recommended without a star.

The guide's announcement singled out Porto for special mention in 2026, with new stars for dop, Éon, In Diferente and Gastro by Elemento. It also noted the arrival of a woman chef among the new stars for the second year running: Angélica Salvador at In Diferente.

Nearby, outside the city, two more new one-star restaurants joined the list: Largo do Paço in Amarante and Schistó, in the Douro at Peso da Régua, led by the chef Vítor Matos.

The two-star and one-star tables

The mistake is to plan around the two-star names alone. Ten more restaurants around Porto hold one star.

Three restaurants hold two stars. Antiqvvm is in Porto, on Rua de Entre-Quintas, rated 4.7 from 783 reviews and serving lunch and dinner from Tuesday, closed on Sundays and Mondays. The Yeatman Gastronomic Restaurant is in The Yeatman hotel in Vila Nova de Gaia, across the river, and Casa de Chá da Boa Nova is on the coast at Leça da Palmeira, north of the city.

Euskalduna Studio on Rua de Santo Ildefonso, rated 4.7 from 630 reviews, opens for dinner from 6 PM and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. In Diferente, on Rua Dr. Sousa Rosa near Foz, rated 4.9 from 680, opens for dinner from 7 PM with the same closing days. Gastro by Elemento, rated 4.8 from 160, opens from 7 PM and closes on Sundays and Mondays.

The others are Blind, in the Torel Palace, Le Monument, Pedro Lemos, Vila Foz and the two new names, dop and Éon, and across the river, Vinha, in the Vinha Boutique Hotel.

Of the starred restaurants whose price symbol the guide shows on its Porto page, all carry four euro signs except Gastro by Elemento, which carries three.

Fine dining beyond the stars

The mistake is to assume that a restaurant without a star is not worth a special evening. The guide recommends many more places in Porto than it stars, and several tasting-menu restaurants rate as highly with diners.

Among the fine dining restaurants in Porto Portugal visitors look at outside the star list, Almeja, near the Aliados, is rated 4.5 from 840 reviews and is one of the places diners mention for its tasting menu; it is listed as closed on Mondays. Atrevo, rated 4.8 from 335, is another tasting-menu name diners mention.

Venn, a vegetarian and vegan restaurant and wine bar rated 4.8 from 556, opens in the evening from 7 PM and lists a price band of 15 to 45 euros, well below the starred tables.

On the coast, Toupeirinho in Matosinhos is listed as a fine dining restaurant rated 4.5 from 444, open in the evening.

Choosing a table

The mistake is to ask which of the best Michelin star restaurants Porto has is the single best. The better question is which one fits the trip.

For the highest distinction in the city itself, Antiqvvm is the two-star table in Porto proper, and it also serves lunch, which makes it easier to fit into a sightseeing day.

For a table across the river, The Yeatman is in Gaia, on the south bank.

For the sea, Casa de Chá da Boa Nova in Leça da Palmeira sits on the coast north of the city, and In Diferente is near the Foz district.

For something new, the four 2026 stars, dop, Éon, In Diferente and Gastro by Elemento, are the names that joined the list most recently.

For a central evening close to the Baixa, Euskalduna Studio on Rua de Santo Ildefonso is a short walk from the Bolhão.

For a stay in a hotel with its own starred restaurant, The Yeatman, the Torel Palace with Blind, and the Vinha Boutique Hotel with Vinha combine the two.

The question is not which is best, but which fits the trip.

Booking and planning

Book ahead. A dinner for a particular date is best reserved before the trip rather than on arrival.

Check the closing days first. Antiqvvm, Euskalduna Studio, In Diferente and Gastro by Elemento were listed as closed on Sundays and Mondays, so a weekend arrival should plan the starred dinner for Friday or Saturday, or for Tuesday onwards.

Expect dinner hours. Most starred kitchens open in the evening, from about 6 or 7 PM; Antiqvvm also serves lunch from 12:30 PM.

Plan the journey. In Diferente is near Foz, about 5 km from the centre, Casa de Chá da Boa Nova is on the coast north of Porto, and The Yeatman and Vinha are across the river in Gaia, so a taxi there and back is part of the evening.

Allow for the price. Four euro signs in the guide mark the top price level; menu prices are set by each restaurant and change, so check its own site.
