Tiago Santos

He read communication and cultural studies at the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto and is completing a master's in urban anthropology. He has written on urban culture for Público's Fugas supplement and for Visão, and spent more than eight years documenting the gentrification and survival of Porto's traditional commerce for municipal cultural archives.

He was born in Miragaia and lives in Cedofeita, a fourth-generation Tripeiro whose family has kept small businesses in the city since the 1960s. He visits anonymously and pays his own way: no comped meals, no sponsored visits, so a recommendation means what it says.
