Is the Porto Card worth it in 2026?

The Porto Card has been off sale since July 2026. What to use instead: a calculator weighs the 24 and 72-hour Andante Tour against paying per ride.

Andante Tour pass or single tickets?

Tell the calculator how many of you there are, how long you need, how many rides you expect and whether the airport metro falls inside the pass, and it prices both ways.

Fares from Metro do Porto, tariff in force from 1 January 2026: Andante Tour 7.75 euros for 24 hours and 16.55 euros for 72 hours on the whole network; a single in zone Z2, central Porto, 1.40 euros for one hour; the airport metro, zone Z4, 2.30 euros. Singles here are priced at the central-zone fare; rides to outer zones cost more. The 0.60 euro paper card for singles is not counted, nor the historic trams, which the pass does not cover.

The short answer in 2026 is that the question has changed. The Porto Card, the city's sightseeing card with museum entries, discounts and an option with public transport, has been off sale since the beginning of July 2026 while it is restructured, and no date or new form has been announced. The official tourism site no longer shows it.

What a visitor can still buy is the transport part. The Andante Tour pass covers the metro, buses and urban trains of the Andante network for 24 or 72 hours, and the calculator below weighs it against paying for single rides and the airport metro, for your own number of journeys. The sections after it cover what the Porto Card used to include, how to buy the same sights separately, and when a pass is worth it.

Without the card, the two most useful things to book separately: transport for sightseeing and the most visited ticket.

What happened to the Porto Card

The mistake is to plan a trip around a card from an old guidebook. In September 2026 it cannot be bought.

Sales of the Porto Card were suspended at the beginning of July 2026. The reason given on the official booking site was a restructuring of the product, and neither the new form nor a return date has been published. The card no longer appears on the official tourism site.

Before that, the card came in two versions, with and without public transport. The last published prices were 7.50 euros for one day without transport and 15 euros with it; 12 and 27 euros for two days; 16 and 32 euros for three; and 18 and 41.50 euros for four. It gave discounts at attractions such as the Palácio da Bolsa, Casa da Música, Serralves, the Torre dos Clérigos and the cathedral, at Port cellars and tastings, on river cruises and on tours, and free entry to several museums.

Those prices are history now. If the card returns, its contents and prices may differ. Until then, the practical choice is between a transport pass and paying per ride, plus buying each sight's ticket on its own.

Check again before you travel: a restructured card could be launched at short notice.

The Andante Tour pass, the part you can still buy

The mistake is to buy a 72-hour pass for a trip spent walking the old town. The pass pays only if you ride often.

The Andante Tour pass costs 7.75 euros for 24 hours and 16.55 euros for 72 hours, on the tariff in force from 1 January 2026. It covers the metro and buses across the whole Andante network, in every zone, and nothing else: no museums, no discounts. It is not valid on the historic trams.

A single ticket in zone Z2, central Porto, costs 1.40 euros and is valid for one hour. The airport is in zone Z4, where a single costs 2.30 euros, and line E reaches Trindade in about 27 minutes. A 24-hour ticket for zone Z2 alone costs 5.35 euros.

So the arithmetic is short. At central fares, the 24-hour pass pays for itself at six rides, or at four rides plus the airport trip in. The 72-hour pass needs about twelve central rides, or fewer if the airport metro falls inside the 72 hours both ways.

The calculator does this sum for your party. The fares are published on the Metro do Porto tariff page.

Who should buy a pass

The mistake is to think a pass saves money by default. For many visitors in Porto, walking and a few singles cost less.

The historic centre is about 2 km across. A stay built around the Ribeira, the cathedral, the Clérigos and the Baixa is mostly walking, and the steepest climbs can be done with a single ride. For that trip, singles win.

A pass starts to pay when the plan spreads out: an arrival by metro from the airport, a day in the west at Serralves or the Casa da Música, a trip to the beach at Matosinhos, and the ride back from Gaia over the upper deck of the bridge, all within a day or three. The more of those in the pass's window, the better it looks.

Travellers staying outside the centre, in Boavista or near the sea, ride more and are the natural buyers.

Groups do the same sum per person: every adult needs a pass, and on singles, ten loaded at once give an eleventh free, which narrows the gap.

For children, check the fares at an Andante shop or ticket machine before buying.

Buying the sights without a card

The mistake is to assume sights cost more without a card. Several of the most visited places cost nothing, and the rest sell their own tickets.

Free: walking both decks of the Luís I bridge, the Jardim do Morro and the Serra do Pilar terrace, the Palácio de Cristal gardens, the Fontainhas viewpoint and the São Bento station hall.

Paid, with their own tickets: the Palácio da Bolsa by guided tour at 14 euros for adults; the Torre dos Clérigos, where students pay 7 euros and children under 10 go free; Livraria Lello with a ticket-voucher that is deducted from a book; Serralves at 24 euros for all spaces; Casa da Música guided tours at 12 euros; and the Port lodges in Gaia, where a standard tasting cost 23 to 25 euros at the big houses in September 2026.

Some of these used to carry a card discount. The Clérigos, for instance, offered 50% off its day ticket to Porto Card holders; with the card off sale, that discount is out of reach.

Book the timed ones ahead: the Bolsa's guided tours, and Lello, where a ticket bought online avoids part of the queue. The things to do in Porto guide lists hours and tickets for each.

What to do instead, by kind of trip

The mistake is to look for one card that replaces everything. Each kind of trip has a simpler answer.

For a weekend in the old town: no pass. Walk, take a single ride when a hill is too steep, and buy the Bolsa, the Clérigos and Lello individually.

For three busy days across the city: work out your rides in the calculator. If they include the airport both ways and a day in the west or at the beach, the 72-hour Andante Tour is likely to win.

For a family: price one pass per adult, and remember the free sights; the Porto with kids guide lists the free ages at each attraction.

For sightseeing transport with commentary: a hop-on hop-off bus ticket covers the main sights over two days, but it is not valid on the metro.

For wine: book one lodge visit in Gaia, or a WOW day pass for its museums and tastings.

The tourist tax, 3 euros per person per night for up to seven nights, is charged by the accommodation whatever you buy, and is set by the Porto municipality.
