What you get

You are choosing a place to sleep in Cedofeita, the arts quarter west of the Baixa. The listings in this group are mostly apartments, and the main bar streets are a walk away. The group has 66 of 728 places of the same kind on the site, or 9 percent.

That makes it a district slice rather than a citywide accommodation list. It is for you if you want an apartment base in the arts quarter and you like the idea that the bar streets are nearby. If you are comparing districts, this is the Cedofeita set: west of the Baixa, with apartments as the dominant property type.

The 9 percent figure also tells you that choosing Cedofeita narrows the field without taking you outside the site's broader accommodation category. You are looking at a group of places to stay that share a district and a mostly apartment character. The main bar streets are a walk away, so the area fits a stay where you want to go out and return without changing districts.

Three of the 66 in this group, each for a different reason: the most reviewed, the best rated on a solid number of reviews, and the cheapest of the well rated.

What these cost, and what you get for more

Entry prices run from 51 EUR to 326 EUR, and the middle entry price is 144 EUR. The bands show how that spread works. One listing starts between 30 and 60 EUR. Twenty-one start between 60 and 120 EUR.

Thirty-six start between 120 and 250 EUR. Eight start at 250 EUR or more. If you need to stay under 120 EUR, the 60 to 120 EUR band gives you 21 choices, while the 30 to 60 EUR band gives you a single choice. If your budget reaches 120 EUR and above, the 120 to 250 EUR band has 36 listings, and the 250 EUR and over band has 8.

The middle entry price sits inside the 120 to 250 EUR band, so that is where a typical listing starts. When you compare two places, check the starting price against these bands rather than against the whole range. The 30 to 60 EUR band is small, so treat it as a narrow opening rather than a broad budget tier.

The 60 to 120 EUR band is where lower-priced choices sit. The 120 to 250 EUR band is the broad middle. The 250 EUR and over band is the higher-priced end. If you want the widest selection, the 120 to 250 EUR band is where you will spend your comparison time.

How far to trust the ratings

The scores here come with votes behind them. Fifty-three listings score 8.1 or above and have at least 10 votes. Thirteen score from 7.0 to just under 8.1. None score less than 7.0, none have fewer than 10 votes, and none have no votes at all.

On a sound basis of at least ten votes, every listing in the group qualifies. That means you are not looking at a set where a high score rests on one or two ratings. Even the lower scores in the group have a vote count behind them.

When you read a score, weigh the number of ratings next to it. A 7.5 from 125 ratings is not the same as a score from a much smaller base, even if the smaller base still passes the ten-vote line. The ten-vote line covers the whole group, so you can compare scores without wondering whether the high-score listings are untested.

All listings clear the ten-vote line, so the 7.0 to 8.1 range is supported evidence. Scores in the 8.1 and above range are the larger block, with 53 listings. The 7.0 to 8.1 range has 13. That split means you can aim high and still have candidates, or drop one band and still stay within evidenced scores.

If a score matters to you, start with the vote count, then look at the score.

Which one to pick

Start with the trade-off you care about. 100 Contos starts at 118 EUR and scores 8.8 from 1,411 votes. If you want to pay more for a higher score, Essência Portuense Studios starts at 221 EUR and scores 9.8 from 283 votes. If you want a lower entry price, Bonsai Apartment 5 starts at 89 EUR and scores 7.5 from 125 votes.

That gives you three real choices: a large vote count at a middle entry price, a higher score at a higher price, and a lower price with a lower score. Fifteen of the listings here carry free cancellation.

Then draw the line against neighbouring groups. Apartments as a whole number 549, and this group is mostly apartments, so the apartment category is broader than Cedofeita. If you want a hotel, guest house or hostel, those categories are separate: 87 hotels, 63 guest houses and 27 hostels.

If another district matters more, Ribeira has 93 listings, Baixa has 409, Bonfim has 124, and Miragaia and Massarelos have 29. If a 9-and-above score is your starting point, the rated 9 and above group has 204 listings, but it is not limited to Cedofeita. Choose this group when the arts quarter west of the Baixa and its apartment character are the point.

Choose one of the neighbouring groups when a different property type or district is the point, or when you want the rated 9 and above filter instead of a district.
