What you get

Bonfim sits east of the centre. It is the part of Porto where many restaurants meet the lowest central prices, so the area makes sense if eating out and keeping the nightly rate down matter more than standing next to famous sights. The trade-off is part of the location: few famous sights, and a longer walk to the river.

The group holds 124 of 728 places of the same kind on the site, 17 percent of that wider pool. You are choosing a base, not a sightseeing circuit. It suits travellers who will use the room to sleep and the streets around it for meals, then walk to the river when they want it.

If you want the river at the door, this is not the group for that. If you want a central place with restaurants close and prices lower than the central norm, Bonfim is the category to inspect. The point is not that Bonfim is quiet or scenic in the way other parts of the centre are.

The point is that it puts restaurants and price first, and asks you to accept the longer river walk. For a short break, that can be a good trade: you eat well near the bed, and you treat the river as a destination rather than a backdrop.

From the 124 options in this group, three stand out for different reasons: the most reviewed, the best rated on a solid number of reviews, and the cheapest of the well rated.

What these cost, and what you get for more

Entry prices run from 16 to 504 EUR, with the middle at 122 EUR. The spread is not even. One listing starts under 30 EUR, three sit between 30 and 60 EUR, 49 between 60 and 120 EUR, 67 between 120 and 250 EUR, and four at 250 EUR and over.

That tells you the real decision sits between the 60 to 120 band and the 120 to 250 band. The 60 to 120 band is where the lowest central prices are most likely to appear; the 120 to 250 band is the largest, so a typical choice lands just above the middle. Among the best-evidenced listings, Uma Poveiros starts at 117 EUR, and Formosa 79 - Porto Center by Porto Velho Apartamentos at 131 EUR.

ML Apartments Story sits at the top of the range. Those examples show a cluster just under and just over 120 EUR, and one top-end outlier. If your budget is near 122 EUR, you are looking at the centre of the group, not at the cheapest edge.

If you want the lowest central prices, the 60 to 120 band is the one to filter for first. The under-30 and 30-to-60 bands are too small to rely on. The 250-and-over band is also rare. Most of the group is in the two middle bands.

How far to trust the ratings

Every listing in the group has at least ten votes. That is the first thing to notice: the scores here are not small-sample guesses. Of the group, 86 score 8.1 and above, 38 score from 7.0 to below 8.1, none score below 7.0, none have fewer than ten votes, and none have no vote at all.

What changes your read is the number behind each score. ML Apartments Story has 8.2 from 428, Hotel Cristo Rei has 7.2 from 211, and Uma Poveiros has 9.0 from 103. Those are heavy bases: the lower 7.2 has more votes than most higher scores elsewhere, and the 9.0 has enough votes to be more than a small-sample spike.

Formosa 79 - Porto Center by Porto Velho Apartamentos has 8.9 from 201, so it pairs a top score with a strong base. If you see a high score on fewer votes, check the votes before treating it as the safer bet. The group has no score below 7.0, but the lower scores that do exist are still backed by votes.

That means a 7.2 with 211 votes is not a warning sign by itself; it is a clear, well-backed result. The strongest evidence in the group is not the highest number, it is the highest number with the most votes behind it.

Which one to pick

Start with the shape of the group. If you want the largest rating base, ML Apartments Story is the first to compare. If you want the highest score in the best-evidenced set, Uma Poveiros is the pick. If you are price-sensitive, Hotel Cristo Rei is the lower-priced option among the best-evidenced, but its score is the lowest there.

41 listings carry free cancellation, so if flexibility matters, that is a real filter. Against neighbouring groups, Bonfim is its own location bet: Ribeira has 93 listings, Baixa 409, Cedofeita 66, and Miragaia and Massarelos 29. If you want a hotel specifically, the hotel group has 87; apartments have 549, guest houses 63, and hostels 27.

Rated 9 and above has 204. Choose Bonfim when the restaurant supply and the lowest central prices matter more than famous sights and a short walk to the river.
