Why go, and how to fit it in
A Catholic cathedral and place of worship, it also serves as a viewpoint over Porto. You can come for prayer, for the tourist attraction itself, or for the city outlook the site offers. Worshippers, sightseers, and anyone who likes churches and museums will find plenty here. A guided tour with entrance tickets is available, and the Santiago Compostela and Cathedral Day Trip from Porto includes it. Doors open 9 AM to 6:30 PM every day, so a morning start works well.
On Saturdays, 9 AM is the quietest open hour and 1 PM is the busiest. Arrive at opening if you want more space. The Sé area also holds small monuments and museums within steps, so the cathedral can be combined with a wider walk around the immediate surroundings. The Museu do Tesouro da Sé do Porto is 49 m away, and the Museu da Cidade - Casa Guerra Junqueiro is just as close.
