Gay hotels Porto Portugal: where to stay

Gay hotels in Porto, Portugal: what the law says, Porto's Pride march, why no listing carries a label, and how to choose a welcoming central place to stay.

Searches for gay hotels porto portugal return a short list of places that call themselves gay-friendly, and a long silence from everyone else. The silence does not mean much in Porto: Portuguese law treats LGBTQ+ guests as equals, and the city's hotels are bound by it like any other business.

Same-sex marriage has been legal in Portugal since Law 9/2010 of 31 May 2010, and the Constitution bans discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation in its article on equality. A couple booking one room with one bed is an ordinary booking here.

The strongest-rated hotel in central Porto: five stars in the Baixa, 9.6 from 1,363 guest reviews.

Choosing a place to stay

None of the 728 places to stay in the central booking sample carries an LGBTQ+ label, so a list of hotels gay friendly porto visitors can trust has to be built another way. The most reliable signal is the one every guest leaves: a high score from many reviews, which reflects how a place treats all of its guests.

On that measure, the strongest places in the city are Torel Saboaria and GA Palace Hotel & Spa, five-star hotels in the Baixa at 9.6, and Maison Cabral, a guest house in Cedofeita at 9.8 from 480 reviews. The best hotels in Porto page ranks every class of place to stay on the same evidence.

A couple who want one double bed rather than two singles should choose a room type that says so, or state it in the booking itself, rather than leave it to the desk on arrival: a room listed as double or twin leaves the choice to the hotel, and the booking is what the place prepares for.

Location matters as well. The Baixa, around the Avenida dos Aliados, holds most of the city's places to stay and is where Porto's Pride march has set off.

Pride in Porto

Porto holds its own Pride march, the Marcha do Orgulho LGBTI+ do Porto. The march has usually fallen in June or July, in Pride month; its 21st edition, in 2026, was moved to 25 April, the anniversary of the 1974 revolution. In 2025 it set off from the Avenida dos Aliados, in the heart of the Baixa. The 2026 date was announced only four days before the march, so a trip planned around Pride should wait for the organisers' announcement before fixing the dates.

For a visit timed around Pride, the Baixa is the natural base, with the march's starting point and most of the hotels within walking distance. The bars and fado page covers the city's nights out.
